Alpine Dachsbracke or (Alpenlandische Dachsbracke) Dogs breed or breeds
This is a muscular, strong, short-legged scenthound that is longer than it is tall. This is an intelligent, efficient, slow-moving and hardworking hunting companion. It has a long, strong muzzle; black nose; brown eyes; and medium-long, broad drop ears. It has a muscular neck and a long, thick tail. The double coat has a dense undercoat and thick, smooth outer coat. It is dark red with or without black ticking, or black with red markings on the chest, head, legs, feet, and underside of the tail. There may be white markings on the chest. The breed is very robust and capable of working in high altitude conditions. Although adapts well to country, suburban and city home, it is rarely kept as pet.
The Alpine Dachsbracke was mostly kept by hunters but in recent years, the dog has found another role to play. This time the dog can be seen in the homes keeping watch over the property and being the gentle and affectionate playmates of the children. These are fearless dogs that make excellent watchdogs. They are known to be very friendly with the family but wary and distrustful of strangers. The dog is relatively small but it loves and enjoys barking. This serves as a deterrent to intruders.
Size
12.5 - 17.5 inches at shoulders.
Coat
The double coat consists of a very thick top coat and a dense undercoat, which covers the whole body and is lies closely.
Color
The ideal color is dark red with or without black ticking. Black with clearly defined red-brown markings on the head (Vieräugl), chest, legs, feet and underneath of the tail. White star on the chest is occasionally seen in some individuals.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Austria.
SPECIAL SKILLS: Working Dog, weather resistant, is used for tracking hound by the mountain hunters.
CHARACTER: Very intelligent dog and great stamina, strong fighting spirit and a very affectionate. Fearless personality.
