Malti-Poo Breed Information

Malti-Poo Description:
The Malti-Poo cross came about by combining the look of the long haired Maltese with the low shedding propensity of the Poodle.  The end result was a Maltese x Poodle cross that makes a great family pet with a minimum amount of shedding.
Malti-Poos are sweet little dogs. Malti-Poos have the best characteristic's of both Poodle and Maltese. They create a perfect lap dog. Malti-Poos are easy going toy breed, small and require brushing to maintain there attractive coat. They are good with children and are very smart. A well known thing about the Malti-Poo is they often appear to be looking right at your facial expressions in order to tell what sort of mood your in.

Malti-Poo Size:
The Malti-Poo height is 8 - 12 inches with the Malti-Poo weight from 10 - 16 lbs.

Malti-Poo Colors:
Malti-Poo colors are pending on the color of the parent poodle parent. The variance of color can be wide but in general. The white of the Maltese is usually what is bred for.

Malti-Poo Coats: 
The Malti-Poo coats are fine, frizzy, wooly. Permitted colors are grey, brown, apricot, black, and white.
The Malti-Poo coat is a no iron-clad guarantee, but the coats usually has a low propensity for shedding. 
In other words, the Malti-Poo sheds little to no hair and is should be good for allergy sufferers.

Malti-Poo Character:
Malti-Poo are sensitive, intelligent, lively, playful, and eager to learn. They bond closely with their family.

Malti-Poo General Temperament:
The Malti-Poo is active, intelligent, loyal, and affectionate. As with any cross-breed, the best way to learn about the temperament of a Malti-Poo is to do internet searches on both the Maltese and the Toy Poodles temperaments. This way you can get any combination of both breeds. The Malti-Poos can be reserved and aloof with strangers although visitors will be anounced.

Malti-Poo Temperament With Children:
Typically, this is an ideal dog for older considerate children.  Their size and playful nature make them a family favorite.

Malti-Poo Temperament With Pets:
Malti-Poos get along well with other small animal or non-canine pets, other dogs and cats.

Care and Exercise for the Malti-Poo:
Brushing regularly is important.  Always check for tangles of the coat behind the ears, hindquarters and beneath the shoulders. Professional grooming is recommended approx. four times a year.  They can be washed often.

Malt-Poos Excercise:
They need moderate exercise.
 
Training a Malti-Poo:
The Malti-poo training is quite easy but as with all dogs at least basic and intermediate obedience classes should be taken which is a well investment for you and your family for years to come.

Malti-Poos will adapt to living in just about any living environment. With their small size they
are good for apartment life or small homes. They are fairly active indoors and will do okay without a yard but they do need quite a lot of excersice.

Malti-Poo Health Issues:
Generally Malti-Poos are very healthy. Malti-Poos have wider spread gene pools, which usually result in a healthier dog. The vigor instilled through this cross makes them less prone to the ailments that afflict the parent breeds such as the subluxating shoulder problems of the Maltese breed.
