The breed was created in Great Britain in the 1800's. The Bullmastiff was originally called the Gamekeeper's Night Dog. They were used in Great Britain to guard the estates at night from poachers. They were fearless and silent attackers, not biting or mauling the poacher, but knocking him to the ground and keeping him there until the gamekeeper came.Today they are good companion dogs. They are loyal and affectionate to their human family.
