This breed has a keen scenting ability. It was developed in the eighteenth century as a pack hound for hunting the fox. With great endurance, the breed would run for hours after the fox and other game. This breed has not been developed as a companion dog, but later it was bred with French and Irish hounds producing the American Foxhound.
