It is believed that this breed was developed from the Wire-haired Fox Terrier. The Irish Terrier has no restraints in its courage when confronting any other dog. It does make an excellent guard dog, but it is a devoted and gentle companion with family members. Once used as a hunting dog, the Irish Terrier is now a fearless companion.
