These dogs are descendents of a hunting dog native to South Africa. The Great Dane has contributed to this breed which is known for their strength and fearlessness. They were used to track lions and big game. Without fear they would drive them toward the hunting party. This can be a good natured and trainable breed. It is specifically noted for the ridge of hair that grows in the opposite direction on its back.
