The Samoyed is a member of the Spitz family of dogs. It has a thick, heavy coat which protects it from bitter weather conditions. Used as a working sled dog, the breed was often used to herd Reindeer. This is a friendly and intelligent breed, making it a good companion. If not trained, the breed can be independent.
